How to Measure for Curtains

How to measure your window space for your made-to-measure curtains

Measuring the finished width is slightly different depending on whether you are hanging your curtains using a track or pole.

  • To measure the finished width for Poles – Measure the width between the finials (the decorative bulbs on the end of the poles).
  • To measure the finished width for Tracks – Measure the whole width of the track end to end.

Tip! If you are going to put up a new face fix track or pole, we recommend that you fix it at least 15cm above the window and at least 25cm on either side so that the curtains will let in as much light as possible when open.

To measure the Finished Drop (the top of the curtain to the bottom of the hem), please refer to the instructions for each heading type.

Tip! For full-length curtains, we recommend that you leave 1cm from the floor to the bottom of the hem for a perfect finished drop (A). For Sill length, measure to the finished sill (B) or 15 – 20cm below the sill (C).

On a Pole – For the curtains to hang underneath the pole, you will need to measure from the eye of the curtain ring to the finished drop.

On a Track – You will need to measure from the top of the track to the finished drop for the curtains to cover the track.

Reminder – Take 1cm from either pole or track finished drop for clearance.

Wave Heading

On a Top Fix Wave Track only – Measure the underneath of the track to your finished drop. (We use a special heading tape for wave headed curtains.) If you measure from this point, your finished curtains will hang level with the bottom of the track.

Reminder – Take 1cm from either pole or track finished drop for clearance.

Eyelet

On a 28mm Pole – Finished Drop (measure from top of where they want the curtain to be to the Finished Drop). The distance between the top of the Eyelet and the top of the curtain is 3cm.

Reminder – Take 1cm from either pole or track finished length for clearance.
